The short version

Chitta is a free study platform for Tibetan Buddhist texts. There are no accounts and nothing to pay for. Use it respectfully and don't misuse it. We'll do our best to keep it running and useful.

Accepting these terms

By using Chitta, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. We may update these terms from time to time — continued use after changes means you accept the updated terms.

No accounts, no charge

Chitta is free to use and requires no account, no sign-in, and no payment. Your reading progress is stored only in your own browser — we never receive it, and we cannot restore it if you clear your browsing data or switch devices.

What you can and cannot do

You can use Chitta for personal study and share what you learn in your own words.

You cannot scrape, copy, or redistribute Chitta's content (including paraphrased translations, glossaries, and commentaries); use automated tools or bots to access the service; or use the platform for any purpose that is harmful, abusive, or unrelated to genuine study.

Content and intellectual property

All content on Chitta — including paraphrased translations, glossaries, commentaries, and study tools — is the intellectual property of Chitta or its licensors. You have a personal, non-transferable license to access this content for your own study.

Study guidance

The translations, glossaries, and commentaries on Chitta are study aids — not a substitute for a qualified teacher, personal instruction, or the guidance of your own lineage. We encourage you to verify important points with your teachers and the original texts.

Availability and changes

Chitta is currently in beta. We do our best to keep the service running smoothly, but we can't guarantee 100% uptime. We may add, change, or remove features as we develop the platform. If we ever need to shut down entirely, we'll give reasonable advance notice on the site.

Limitation of liability

Chitta is provided “as is.” We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Because Chitta is provided free of charge, our total liability to you is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. Any disputes will be resolved through good-faith communication first. If that doesn't work, disputes will be handled through binding arbitration in accordance with applicable law.
